Shevaun Watson is an expert in rhetoric, writing studies, writing assessment, and composition pedagogy. She has over 20 years’ experience teaching expository writing and training graduate student instructors in teaching composition. She directs the first-year writing program at UWM (since 2015), and she led that same program at UW-Eau Claire for six years before that. She is happy to talk to the public about student writing, academic discourse, literacy issues, information literacy, research-based writing, and her current research. This research focuses on race, public memory, and heritage tourism. She is writing a book about the tourism industry in Charleston, South Carolina, and its role in shaping Americans’ understanding of the history of slavery in the U.S.
