Joyce Locke Carter is professor of rhetoric and writing at the University of Arkansas, Little Rock, where she is chair of the department. Prior to coming to UALR, she was an associate professor of rhetoric and technical communication at Texas Tech University, teaching courses in UX and Usability Research, argumentation, hypertext, publication management, and rhetoric and technology. Her most recent book, Market Matters: Applied Rhetoric Studies and Free Market Competition, examines market and market-like rhetorical activities. She holds a BA in English from the University of Southern California, and an MA in English literature, an MBA, and a PhD in Rhetoric, all from the University of Texas. Her current projects include a book on administrative issues associated with a graduate distance education program, and her ongoing study of the value of communication activities within organizations. Dr. Carter is married and has two boys.
